EU lawmakers forged a long-awaited compromise on the recast buildings directive on the 17 November. The recast will require the public sector to take the lead by owning and renting buildings with "nearly zero" energy standards by the end of 2018, two years in advance of the private sector. Moreover, member states were tasked to promote the conversion of existing buildings to comply with the standard.

For the first time, within the framework of the annual Passive House Conference, the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt is announcing an Architecture Award which will be awarded for outstandingly creative building projects which have been realised in accordance with the Passive House standard. All architects with certified and high quality designed Passive Houses are invited to take part.

Five Build with CaRe partners took part in the sixth edition of the International Passive House Days, initiated by IG Passivhaus in Germany. More than 1 000 people visited houses in Hamburg, Oldenburg, Bremen, Västra Götaland and Schleswig-Holstein. 700 houses in 18 countries took part in the event at the 6th to 8th of November.

The second Build with CaRe annual conference took place in Germany and assembled 70 people. Key note speaker Christian Kornevall from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development showed how immediate and strong action to transform the building sector is necessary to cut energy use in buildings by 60 percent by 2050 and meet global climate targets.

The European Commission is calling on member states to support the rollout of technologies to boost energy efficiency, estimating that household energy bills would drop by 10% thanks to smart metering devices. However, no common standards for the devices are currently available.
