Brussels to propose mandatory EU energy savings goal |

The European Commission plans to impose binding energy-efficiency targets on EU member states, according to a draft of the EU's revised Energy Efficiency Action Plan obtained by EurActiv. The draft also targets buildings as the highest priority.

EU starts hammering out deal on buildings directive |

The Swedish EU Presidency will meet with MEPs at the end of the month to hammer out an early second-reading agreement on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, but concluding a deal by the end of the year appears to be a long shot, according to an article in EurActiv. The two low-energy homes at Skelton road in Diss, Norfolk, took three days to erect. The component parts are driven on to the site, and include prefabricated panels from Sweden with triple-glazed windows already installed, ready for lifting into place by crane. Build with Care partners University of East Anglia and West Suffolk College are supporting and monitoring the project.

New modeling by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) shows how energy use in buildings can be cut by 60 percent by 2050 “ essential to meeting global climate change targets “ but this will require immediate action to transform the building sector. This is the central message of the report from the WBCSD's four-year Efficiency in Buildings (EEB) research project.
